Watch fearless riders attempt to conquer powerful bucking bulls in an eight-second showdown of grit and determination. Then hold on tight as talented barrel racers and their horses fly through the pattern at top speed, chasing the clock in a thrilling display of skill and athleticism.


Mutton Bustin’ for the Kids!

Part way through the night, the spotlight shines on the youngest cowboys and cowgirls during Mutton Bustin’! Kids climb aboard sheep for their own mini rodeo ride, creating unforgettable memories and big smiles. It’s one of the most crowd-favorite moments of the night and a perfect way to introduce the next generation to rodeo fun.

With nonstop action, family-friendly entertainment, and the electric atmosphere of the grandstand lights, Bulls N Barrels is a can’t-miss event that delivers rodeo excitement for all ages. Grab your seats and get ready for a wild ride!

Mutton Bustin' Rules & Regulations (tentative)

  1. A paid ticket to Bulls N Barrels is required for parent & child. A ticket is not required for a child who is 5 and under.
  2. The first 20 qualified & registered contestants will be in the event. Only a parent or legal guardian may register a child in the Mutton Bustin' event. Registration begins on July 15 and is completed in-person in the Steele County Free Fair Office.
  3. Release forms and waivers must be signed by a parent or guardian at registration/event.
  4. Registration cost is $10.00 per child.
  5. Children must be between 3-10 years of age and may not exceed 55 lbs. This is for the safety of the animal.
  6. Contestants must wear long pants, boots, or sturdy shoes (no flip flops or sandals). Long sleeve shirts and pants are highly recommended.
  7. Protective helmets will be required (for safety of child). A bicycle or hockey style is preferred. NO RACING style helmets with point in front!
  8. Only 1 parent allowed in arena with each contestant.
  9. Contestants must check into the Fair Office or call 507-451-5305 by 12:00pm on Saturday, August 22, 2026. Contestants not checked in by that time will forfeit their spot.
  10. There will be a Rice Bull Riding Company and/or Steele County Free Fair representative to assist and direct each contestant. Listen to the staff/announcer for all instructions.
